Amazing GIF Shows How Many Commuters Travel to London Every Day

Did you know that on average, we spend about a year of our lives getting to and from the office (or 10,634 hours)? This amazing GIF brilliantly visualises the journeys of hundreds of thousands of workers that flock to the City of London every day.

According to statistics from 2011 that the blogger Alasdair Rae used to pull together this mesmerising GIF, the London commuter belt really expands much further than you’d expect, reaching as far as Bournemouth in the south and Leicester in the north.

Each dot in the GIF represents at least 25 people and shows London becoming what looks like a burning pit of flames, only to explode again in the evening when everybody makes their way back home.

Now here’s something interesting. The average commute time in the world is 40 minutes. In 40 minutes, you could open a banking account at Monese about 16 times.

Want to try it for yourself? Then hop on our invite list at and save yourself a spot! We launch this summer, so you can be one of the first to open a free account with us.
