Linking Your Monese Card With PayPal

Linking your Monese card is so easy it can be done in just 2 simple steps! Follow our guide below and you’ll soon be ready to shop!

Step 1: Add the card

Start by logging into your PayPal account. Then go to ‘Wallet’ in the top menu bar.

Then choose ‘Link a card’ at the bottom right, under ‘Credit Cards’. Next, you need to enter your Monese card details and click ‘Save’. Please note: Although your Monese card is a debit card and not a credit card, PayPal will accept it just the same.

Tadaa! Your Monese card will now show up in your cards list. Phew, now that’s done let’s move on to step 2:

Step 2: Confirm your card

Once you have added the card to PayPal, you can choose to verify it. A verified card lifts the PayPal spending limits. To do that, simply choose your newly added Monese card and click ‘Confirm Card. PayPal will then charge your Monese card £1 to make sure it’s yours, so make sure you have funds on your Monese account for PayPal’s verification charge. Don’t worry, they’ll refund it into your account within 24 hours after you have confirmed the card.

If you don’t have any funds on your Monese account, but you wish to link your card, our support team can help you out. Just let us know via email at [email protected] or call us on +44 (0) 1706 304 001 and we’ll temporarily put £1 on your Monese account so you can link your card.

After you have selected to confirm your card, you should receive a push notification from your Monese app about your card being charged by PayPal. Check your Monese account by logging into the app, then check your transaction history. You will notice a code starting with ‘Pp’ in the reference of PayPal’s charge:

Now head back to PayPal and log in. Click on your Monese card, select ‘Confirm Card’ again, then enter the 4 numbers from that code.

And that’s it! Your Monese card is now fully linked to your PayPal account and ready for action.

  1. Unfortunately after step 1 the following message appears: “The bank that issued your card didn’t approve this transaction. Please contact the card issuer’s customer service department if you have any questions. Or you can add a different card now to continue.”

    1. Hey Martijn, that’s odd. Can you make sure you have enough funds on your account for PayPal to be able to take their verification charge? If you do have enough funds and the problem persists, our support team will gladly help you out. Just drop them an email at [email protected] and they’ll get back to you ASAP.

      1. To add some extra info to this issue… It has been solved by the Monese support team. There wasn’t any money in my Monese account yet therefore I couldn’t add the card to Paypal. After transfering a few bucks into the account, adding the card to Paypal worked like a charm.

  2. I have added the card and was easy and super fast BUT if I try to withdraw money from my Paypal I get only the option of my linked Bank Account. Am I missing something??

  3. I got the same error:
The bank that issued your card didn’t approve this transaction. Please contact the card issuer’s customer service department if you have any questions. Or you can add a different card now to continue.

    1. Hi Danial, PayPal will want to take £1 from your Monese card to make sure it’s yours and this error usually happens when you don’t have money on your Monese card. Our support team is happy to help you out with that and temporarily put £1 on your for the transaction. Just contact us on [email protected] or +44 (0) 1706 304 001.
