It’s a little over a week until we have the Easter bank holiday weekend which means a fantastic four day weekend! Here’s a quick rundown of what’s happening in and around London on a budget, so there’s no need to spend a crazy amount of money to enjoy your well earned time off.
Take a stroll on over to Duke of York Square in Chelsea to get your Chocolate fix this Easter. Back for it’s third year, the Chocolate Market is a thing of dreams for chocoholics. There will be various master chocolate makers selling their truffles, bars and of course, eggs. There will also be free tasters available. Well, it is Easter and if you can’t enjoy some free choccy treats now, then when can you?
Down by the river
How about a trip down to the river on Easter Sunday? The annual Cambridge v. Oxford Boat is on Sunday 27th this year, with the women’s race starting at 3.10pm, followed by the men’s race at 4.10pm. Starting at Putney Bridge and ending at Mortlake there are around 250,000 people who line the route for the race, and many in any of the numerous pubs along the way.
Take the kid’s on a bear hunt…
Ok, so it’s not an actual bear hunt but your kid’s will love the immersive story experience at the Discover Children’s Story Centre. Each scene from the classic ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael Rosen makes up the basis of the tour, kids can feel the swishy-swashy grass, crouch down to inspect tiny ursine model scenes in floor-level glass boxes, and crawl through a tot-sized tunnel to the ‘narrow gloomy cave’ filled with a furry family of lolling bears. It’s a wonderfully atmospheric way to bring the rhythmic story to life.
..Or egg hunt
The National Trust are hosting family fun Easter egg hunts at several of their properties over the bank holiday weekend. Check here for your nearest location, many of which have free entry.
