Most of us are motivated by own ambitions. Whether it’s to be successful in your career, raise a family or travel the world, we all have our own ideas about what we want to achieve to make our life a success. When it comes to realising your ambitions there is always the underlying question of ‘how?’
The simple truth is that there isn’t a certified formula that you can follow that guarantees success, but there are some easy rules that you can live by that will definitely give you the edge when it comes to moving towards your dreams.
Learn from your mistakes…
And don’t be afraid to make plenty of them. You will encounter bumps in the road along your way, but don’t let them set you back or slow you down. With every mistake you make there is a chance to learn and accept your errors, then move forward making sure they don’t happen again. Einstein summed it up perfectly when he said ‘insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting different results.’
Don’t fret when it comes to hard work
Being successful in whatever you do is going to take time and effort. Rarely does personal success come out of thin air, instead you can expect to sacrifice immediate comfort for long-term gains. At the early stages you’ll find that the more you put in, the more you’ll get out. Microsoft founder Bill Gates said that he didn’t take a day off in his 20’s as he was building the company. Now you don’t have to go to that extreme, but the sentiment is the same. If you want to have great success, you have no choice but to work hard for it.
It’s all too easy to take a passive attitude to your life. You can fall into routines and habits that make life easy, you almost don’t have to think about what you have to do, daily activities have become automatic. You have to break this passive cycle in order to take back the control over your life, or you will always find it difficult to drive yourself forward. Richard Branson agrees saying ‘get out there and do things — don’t watch other people do things’. You have to have some ‘get up and go’ or you will always find yourself in exactly the same position you are in now.
Invest in yourself
Always take the time to keep your skills and your health in check. Warren Buffet once said ‘the best investment you can make is in your own abilities’, and he wasn’t lying. By constantly working to improve yourself through the acquisition of new skills you’ll be in a far better position to achieve your goals. So stay passionate, dedicated and focused in yourself.
