How to have an amazing holiday for less

Don’t think you have left it too late to escape on an amazing holiday this summer. Here are the best ways you can jet away for less:

Look for late deals

It’s a good idea to book your holiday well in advance, but don’t automatically think that you’ve left it too late. Look at websites like LateDeals.co.uk and LastMinute.com to find great deals leaving within the next 8 weeks. If you are looking for cheap flights check Kayak and Skyscanner to find out the cheapest flights to your chosen destination, on the date that suits you best.

Get the best rate on your room

Just because you don’t have long to plan doesn’t mean you should throw money at the problem. There are loads of places that you can stay and not all of them are expensive. Check Laterooms, Expedia, AirBnB and Hotels.com for the best rates in hotels, bed and breakfast lodgings and self-catering villas or apartments.

House swap

Do you live in a popular tourist destination, or perhaps your house is in a beautiful countryside location? If you do you could use your house to your advantage when it comes to taking a holiday. There are places that let you list your home and search for other homes for a house swap holiday. This cuts the cost of staying in hotels down, but is only going to work if you are comfortable with other people staying in your home, and vice-versa.

Google your activities

Once you have arrived use Google to find out what free activities are available in your destination. You’ll be able to find out where your local tourist office is, which is great for getting face-to-face advice. Also search to see if there are any free guided walks taking place in your destination. Most major European cities have them and it’s a great way to get a good look at the sights. You can also use Google to see if there are any good city guide apps for your holiday. They’ll show you some of the best things to see and do nearby, and some even filter by budget.
